Brigantine police arrested 23-year-old Jonathan Murillo and 22-year-old Onix Murillo-Hernandez on Monday, June 10, the department said in a news release. They were found when officers responded to reports of a loud group outside a home on the 4100 block of Brigantine Boulevard.
Police first went to the home at around 1:36 a.m. and saw a group loudly drinking and celebrating at a nearby home. Murillo repeatedly yelled at a female officer that he was a trooper with the New Jersey State Police.
After being "uncooperative and hostile," Murillo eventually went back into the home and the group agreed to go inside to continue their party quietly. Police suspected Murillo was lying about being a state trooper and a search of law enforcement databases found he had several active arrest warrants.
Police received a second noise complaint about the group at around 2:06 a.m. Officers returned and tried to arrest Murillo on his warrants but Murillo-Hernandez interfered.
Investigators said Murillo-Hernandez swore at the officers, shouting racist and sexist slurs. After the female officer pulled him away, he threatened to shoot her and "made a hand gesture toward her."
Murillo-Hernandez was also arrested but tried to avoid getting in the police vehicle after he was handcuffed. He also refused to be fingerprinted or photographed at the police station.
Murillo-Hernandez was charged with terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and refusing to provide fingerprints. Murillo was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.
The two men were held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
A 43-year-old Brigantine man who hosted the party was charged with violating the city's noise ordinance.
